Description

Located in one of Amsterdam’s most attractive settings, on the Wittenburgergracht overlooking the Nieuwe Vaart, we are pleased to offer this beautifully renovated apartment in the former De Paerl warehouse. The property features three bedrooms and also offers the possibility of mooring a boat.

LAYOUT
The apartment is located on the fourth floor and can be reached via the communal entrance, either by stairs or elevator.
Upon entering, the high standard of finish immediately stands out. The apartment was stylishly renovated in 2021, with great care taken to preserve its authentic features. The original wooden beams adorning the ceilings are particularly striking. This characteristic detail runs throughout much of the apartment and reinforces its former warehouse character.

The hallway forms the central point of the apartment and provides access to the various rooms. A separate toilet is also located here.
At the front of the apartment, overlooking the Nieuwe Vaart, is the living room. Its generous layout allows for both a comfortable sitting area and a dining area. Authentic French doors open onto a French balcony, offering views over the water.
Adjacent to the living room is the open kitchen. The space retains the character of the former warehouse, with exposed wooden beams and robust structural columns. The L-shaped kitchen is equipped with built-in appliances, including a six-burner gas hob, oven with plate warmer, extractor hood, combination microwave/oven and dishwasher, as well as an exceptionally long worktop. There is also ample cupboard space.

Two bedrooms are located at the front of the apartment. The spacious primary bedroom has an adjoining room currently used as a walk-in wardrobe, with plenty of space for built-in wardrobes. The second room is also connected to the primary bedroom and is ideal as a child’s bedroom, home office or additional dressing room.
The third bedroom is located at the rear of the apartment. This versatile room can easily be used as a guest bedroom, hobby room or home office.
The bathroom is finished to a high standard and features a bathtub, walk-in rain shower and a double wooden vanity with two washbasins.
The entire apartment benefits from underfloor heating and beautiful wooden herringbone flooring throughout.
A private storage unit is located on the ground floor. At the rear of the building, there is also a mooring spot suitable for a small boat.

MONUMENT
Former De Paerl Brewery. A historic complex dating from the third quarter of the seventeenth century, consisting of three workshop wings and a residential building arranged around a courtyard beneath a continuous hipped roof.

AREA
Wittenburg is one of Amsterdam’s three Eastern Islands, reclaimed from the IJ in the seventeenth century alongside Kattenburg and Oostenburg. The island was developed for private shipyards supplying vessels to the Admiralty on Kattenburg and the Dutch East India Company (VOC) on Oostenburg. Its name derives from shipbuilder Jan Witheyn, who founded the first shipyard here with his business partner Jacob Burggraaf in 1657. The Oosterkerk, built in 1671, remains one of the area’s defining landmarks.
Today, the neighbourhood is just as lively as it once was, albeit in a different way. A few minutes’ walk away, Kadijksplein is home to Café Kadijk, a much-loved family-run café serving Indonesian food for over twenty years, with a sunny terrace, as well as Bakers & Roasters, a popular spot for brunch.
For culture, there is little need to leave the neighbourhood. Mezrab hosts an ever-changing programme of storytelling, dance, art and poetry, while ARTIS, the National Maritime Museum, the Hortus Botanicus and the Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ are all within walking distance, as is the tranquillity of the Plantage neighbourhood.
